Takaoka Life

A store in Kataharamachi with triangular floors (Sutani Fudosan Co., Ltd.)

2017.03.28 UP

This vacant store is discussed on the website of the real estate company Sutani Fudosan.

Standing at the entrance to Daifukuin-dori, a boulevard that retains a nostalgic mid-20th-century feel, this store faces a covered shopping arcade, a feature that makes it especially convenient on rainy days.

Each room in this rare three-story wooden structure is compact and well-suited to uses like opening a new store or setting up a studio.

This property is ideally suited to a wide range of uses that take advantage of the surrounding environment. Examples include a cafe with walls lined to the ceiling with bookcases or a beer garden with doors wide open to the arcade on summer evenings.

〜Uses〜

・ Please consult with us first regarding residential use or joint use by multiple tenants.

・ Remodeling by tenants is permitted as long as it does not affect the building structure. Note that prior approval is required for all remodeling.

☆ Contact Sutani Fudosan for more information on this property.

☆ Activities including preparations for life in Takaoka or promoting interest for store openings may be eligible for support under the Takaoka Machikko Project.

Seeking volunteers to research and organize precious ancient documents as part of efforts to preserve the community’s history and culture/Takaoka Municipal Museum

2017.03.28 UP

Working with an abundance of historical materials, the Takaoka Municipal Museum communicates the history, traditional industry, and folkways of Takaoka. The Museum is home to an extensive collection of valuable materials that need to be catalogued, including ancient documents donated by local citizens and others every year. While Takaoka was spared the ravages of bombing during World War II and retains a wealth of historical materials, there is a severe shortage of people available to read through these materials.

Formed last April (2015), the Takaoka Ancient Document Volunteers organization allows local residents to contribute to research on and the cataloguing of unexamined historical materials at the Museum and other materials not yet examined within the community.

These activities seek not just to promote and advance the history and culture of the Takaoka region, but to provide learning opportunities for the volunteers themselves. Anyone with even the slightest interest in Takaoka’s history and culture is welcome. Since volunteers read the materials together in enjoyable ways, they don’t even need to be able to read ancient documents fluently. You might even discover something new about Takaoka’s history!

For those with no experience in researching or cataloguing ancient documents, the Museum also offers a course entitled “Introduction to Ancient Documents” .

Those who have the time to spare to learn or contribute and those who would like to help transmit Takaoka’s history and culture to the future are encouraged to apply.
